The name “Filante” translates to “stringy” in Italian, perhaps a nod to the saddle’s birthplace just outside Milan, a city famous for its flowing pasta dishes. This rare, vintage creation from Selle Italia is a true collector’s item.
Comfort with a Tactile Touch
Unlike the slick, treated surfaces of many modern saddles, the Filante boasts a unique top layer. Crafted from soft, whole-grained leather, it offers a comfortable, textured feel akin to felt. This eliminates unwanted slipping while riding, but also requires a bit more care due to the delicate nature of the material. The rear of the saddle complements this comfort with a luxurious touch – genuine suede leather.
Lightweight Performance
The base of the Filante utilizes a lightweight, thin, and highly flexible poly shell. This innovative design ditches the need for bulky padding, relying on the shell’s flex for shock absorption. The saddle still offers a firm pad to support your sit bones, ensuring comfort on longer rides. Additionally, manganese rails help dampen road vibrations, keeping your ride smooth.
Weighing in at a mere 200 grams, the Filante is a true featherweight, making it ideal for performance-oriented cyclists.
Fair condition and still very ridable, but shows wear and tear from use. The saddle surface is in good condition with fading to the color, discoloration and wear. The nose of the saddle shows wear to the leather and loss of color. There is a small 1 inch tear along the saddle backside where the leather wraps around the poly shell.
