Condition: Very good mechanically — bearings spin smoothly with no play, threads clean and undamaged. Bodies show significant scuffing and surface wear consistent with heavy trail use. Cosmetically rough, functionally solid. No cleats included.
Notes from MyBikeThing: The M780 is the sweet spot of the Shimano SPD lineup — essentially XTR function at XT price. Enlarged platform over the M770, excellent mud shedding, crisp engagement. These have clearly done their job on the trail. Bearings and threads are what matter, and both are good.
Workshop Wisdom: The M780 spindle takes an 8mm hex for installation — not the standard 15mm pedal wrench. Torque to 35 Nm. If you prefer easier entry/exit on technical terrain, run SH-56 multi-release cleats instead of the standard SH-51.
