Notes from MyBikeThing: The “Hyper Glide C” stamp and Made in Japan marking put this in the early-to-mid 90s Shimano era — back when cassettes were built to last. The 11-28 range is the sweet spot for road and light touring: enough top end, enough bailout. These shift cleanly and hold up far longer than modern budget cassettes.

Workshop Wisdom: When installing, hand-thread the lockring carefully — the threads are fine and easy to cross-thread under the spring pressure of the cassette. Get it finger-tight first, confirm it’s seated straight, then torque to 40 Nm with a cassette lockring tool and chain whip.
