🏆 The Story Behind the WheelsSun 0° Lite Gold / Shimano XTR M950 — Klein OEM, Late 1990s
– The Sun 0° Lite was Sun’s weight-optimized XC racing rim of the late 1990s — machined TCB brake track, eyeleted, lightweight double-wall construction, built right before Sun acquired Ringle and became the Sun Ringle we know today. The gold anodized finish was Klein spec — one of the most obsessive builders of the era. Klein didn’t just build bikes, they built rolling sculpture. That “Sun Race Use PNLY” sticker on the rim? Pure 90s MTB attitude — Sun’s way of saying these were purpose-built race rims, not shelf stock. Laced to Shimano XTR HB/FH-M950 hubs in gunmetal grey — the absolute pinnacle of mid-90s MTB componentry — with a titanium freehub body on the rear. Gold rims. Gunmetal hubs. Black spokes. This is a color combination that stops people cold at the trailhead.
