Cup-and-cone bearings are user-serviceable, re-packable, and will outlast sealed cartridge designs when maintained. Complete with crown race and spacers, which is the right way to buy a headset.

Workshop Wisdom: Don’t hammer cups in — use a headset press or a DIY equivalent: long bolt, washers, and a socket sized to the cup OD. Uneven seating damages head tubes. Install the star nut before final cup pressing. Set it 12–15mm below the top of the steerer so the stem bolt engages it properly.
