Description
Will this work?
- Shimano 9-speed road drivetrain — compatible with 9-speed STI levers and rear derailleurs
- Braze-on mount only — requires a braze-on tab on the frame, not clamp-on compatible without an adapter
- Double crankset only — not for triple
- Bottom pull cable routing
- Compatible with Shimano 9-speed 105, Ultegra, and Dura-Ace groupsets
Condition: Very good. Light logo fading and minor scuffs consistent with normal use. No rust, no bent cage, no missing parts. Cable anchor bolt present and functional. Mechanically sound.
Notes from MyBikeThing — The FD-5500 is the 9-speed generation 105 front derailleur — silver finish, braze-on mount, made in Japan. Reliable, precise, and a natural fit for any period-correct 9-speed Shimano road build. Braze-on versions are less common than clamp-on and more sought after for dedicated road frame builds.
Workshop Wisdom — Braze-on FDs require a braze-on tab brazed directly to the frame — if your frame has a clamp-on tab only, you’ll need a braze-on adapter. Set cage height 2–3mm above the largest chainring and align parallel to the chainrings before setting limit screws. Bottom pull means the cable routes from below — confirm your frame’s cable routing before ordering.
Guarantee — You put in the miles, we put in the work. 30-day guarantee on fit, function, and condition. – Paul
