A “corn-cob” is a designation for very special cassette that imbued a cyclist with a reputation of insane leg power. Having very small differences in cog sizing (from small to large) the cassette looks like a corncob. While the benefits to these cassettes are based on the quick, rapid changes to gearing and smooth changes to cadence, this also means that when the bike climbs, the lowest gear does little to help (hence the leg power!)
