Workshop Wisdom Shimano hydraulic brakes use mineral oil — do not use DOT fluid, it will destroy the seals. Bleeding is straightforward with Shimano’s funnel method; a basic bleed kit runs about $15 and the process takes 20 minutes per brake. Highly recommended before first ride on any used hydraulic set.
